James Corden, host of CBS’ The Late Late Show, will be saluted at the 11th annual Oscar Wilde Awards in February.
The casual awards-season event once again will be hosted by J.J. Abrams at his Bad Robot offices in Santa Monica. It will take place on Feb. 25 on its traditional Thursday night before the Academy Awards.
The nonprofit U.S.-Ireland Alliance created the bash to recognize the contributions of the Irish in film and television, but it fetes “honorary Irish” folks on occasion. Corden, 37, who was born in London, just may have sealed the deal for the Oscar Wilde recognition when he braved to dance with a Riverdance touring troupe on his show in September.
“He deserves to be our ‘honorary Irishman’ this year just on the basis of the courage it takes to perform with some of the finest Irish dancers in the world,” said U.S.-Ireland Alliance founder and president Trina Vargo in a statement.
Other honorees will be announced in the coming weeks.
Among those saluted in previous years were Jim Sheridan, Colin Farrell, Hylda Queally, Seamus McGarvey, Sarah Bolger, Saoirse Ronan, Brendan Gleeson, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Colm Meaney, Van Morrison, Terry George, Neil Jordan and late THR writer Steve Brennan.
